Description
Widow's Mites, sometimes called "lepton" or "prutah", are genuine coins from the time directly before Jesus. Over 2,000 years old, they are surprisingly affordable. These coins make perfect gifts for your child, grandchild, grandparent, or favorite clergyman.
Design and Packaging
The high-relief designs feature symbolic representations of anchors, stars, eight-spoked wheels, cornucopias, and other objects of daily life from over two millennia ago. Each coin comes in a beautiful fold out display case with a large portrait of Jesus, a map of the ancient region, and a brief history of this Biblical coin. The coin is encased in clear plastic, allowing you to view this coin in its entirety.
Minting Information
Minted by the Kings of Judea, circa 100-60 B.C., each Widow's Mite was hand cast from bronze, so each is uniquely shaped. Smaller than today's U.S. dimes, Widow's Mites were widely used throughout the region today known as the Middle East. It is a minor miracle that they have survived so long for archaeologists, historians, and people of faith to study, cherish, and protect for future generations.
Mentioned in The Bible
The Widow's Mite is the genuine coin mentioned in the Holy Bible. Read the following quote from Mark 12:41-44:
Now Jesus sat opposite the [temple] treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury. And many who were rich put in much. Then one poor widow came and put in two mites, which make a quadran. So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood.
