Platinum Australian Koala Coin Description
Australian Koalas are one of the earliest
platinum investment bullion coins to be issued by any nation. The pioneering Perth Mint even issued a 1-oz. palladium coin with a face value of $40 (Aus) in the mid-1990's.
Design of the Platinum Australian Koala
As with its other bullion coins, the design on the obverse of the Platinum Koala features an Ian Rank Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. She is encircled by her name, the name of the country, and the denomination.
In keeping with the design rotations for all its bullion coins, the reverse design of the Koala changes annually, save for the larger sizes in certain years. Each year features a different representation of the cuddly, tree-climbing marsupial.
Platinum Australian Koala Coin Minting Information
The Perth Mint stamps the traditional 'P' Mint Mark on its Koalas. These platinum coins enjoy legal tender status as outlined in the Australian Currency Act 1965.
