$5 Liberty - Gold Coin

Congress authorized the U.S.
Mint to coin the $5.00 gold piece, or Half Eagle, on April 2, 1792. The
first design of the $5.00 gold piece, referred to as the Capped Bust to
Right, Small Eagle, was the first gold coin minted by the United States
government. It is also the only coin in U.S. history to have been
struck at all seven U.S. Mints that were open during its circulation.
The $5.00 gold piece had several design changes throughout its history.
One of the final designs of the $5 gold coin, the Liberty, or Coronet,
design by Christian Golbrecht, was minted from 1839 until 1908 when the
$5 Indian gold coin was introduced.

DesignThe obverse of the $5 Liberty is
very similar in design to the $2.50 and $20 Liberty gold coins. As with
these coins, the obverse features Lady Liberty whose tight bun of hair
is adorned with a string of beads. A coronet inscribed with the word
"LIBERTY" rests on top of her head. The date and one star for each of
the thirteen original colonies encircle Liberty's portrait.

The reverse features a proud bald eagle with wings spread, standing
among olive branches. The eagle clinches three arrows in his talons,
and has a shield featuring stars and stripes upon his chest. The words
'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA', the denomination, and the Mint Mark
surround the eagle. Coins minted from 1839 through 1866 do not feature
the motto 'IN GOD WE TRUST'. In 1866 the reverse was modified by adding
the Motto on a ribbon above the eagle.

Minting InformationThe Philadelphia Mint
produced these coins throughout their production run, although minting
slowed somewhat during the Civil War years. This slack was taken up in
part by the San Francisco branch, which also circulated gold coins
during these years. The $5.00 Liberty was also minted at Charlotte,
Dahlonega, and New Orleans. After the motto was added, these coins were
struck at Carson City, and in 1906 and 1907 at the newly opened Denver
Mint. The only other U.S. Mint facility, located at West Point, was not
opened until 1984, almost eighty years after the $5 Liberty was
discontinued.

Swiss 20 Franc - Gold Coin

The Swiss 20 Franc Vreneli
gold coin is one of the world's classic gold coins and quite popular
among investors. Switzerland, neutral since its creation by the
Congress of Vienna in 1815, has long been synonymous with stability and
fiscal strength due to its practice of backing its currency with large
quantities of gold.

DesignThe obverse of this Swiss 20 Franc,
considered by some as the loveliest of all Swiss coin designs, features
a bust of a Vreneli, the charming 'Swiss Miss' of Swiss lore. With
braided hair, she wears a garland of flowers and appears against the
background of the Swiss Alps. Above her head appears the word
'HELVETIA', which is why this coin is also referred to as a Helvetia.
The reverse of the coin features a Swiss shield over a background of
an oak branch tied with ribbons. The denomination (20 FR) and the date
also appear on this side.

Minting InformationAll Vreneli Swiss 20 Francs were
minted in the country's lone mint facility located in Bern and are
composed of 90% gold. In 1879, 29 known pieces were struck with bright
Valaisan gold from Gondo. These coins are distinguished with a small
cross punched in the center of the Swiss cross on the reverse.

HelvetiaHelvetia is now known as a
western region in Switzerland, but it once referred to the entire area
and its people. Julius Caesar conquered the Helvetii for the Roman
Empire in 58 B.C. The name stayed with the people and the region up
through the beginning of the 19th Century. In fact, the country was
named the Helvetian Republic in 1798 during Napoleon's rule over the
region. Once Napoleon was defeated, the Congress of Vienna recognized
Switzerland's sovereign nature. From this point on, Switzerland has
remained neutral during foreign wars.

French 20 Francs Angel - Gold Coin

The French Angel is surrounded
by more mystique than perhaps any other coin in our line of European
Francs. Not only is it 90% pure gold, but its design is legendary for
its purported ability to bring luck to its owner.
Both investors and collectors love the French Angel 20 Franc gold
coin for its storied history, innate beauty, high gold content, and
relatively short mintage period.

DesignThe Angel represented on the
obverse is the guardian angel Genius as she inscribes the French
Constitution upon a tablet next to a pillar and a rooster. The words
"REPUBLIQUE FRAN'AISE" are above the angel.
The reverse shows the denomination (20 FRANCS) and date encircled by
a wreath. The words 'LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE' appear between the
wreath and the rim.

Minting InformationThe design of this
coin appeared on 20 Franc gold coins in three different periods. The
coins that Goldline offers were all minted between 1871 and 1898,
although several of those years yielded no 20 Franc Angels. The Angel
design was also briefly used for the 20 Franc in 1848-49 and again from
1899 to 1906, where the edge of the coins featured the inscription,
'DIEU PROT'G' LA FRANCE'. All French 20 Franc Angel gold coins were
minted in Paris.

LegendThe Angel design first appeared on
the 1 Louis D'Or in 1792. The designer of that coin, Augustine Dupre,
was sentenced to lose his head on the guillotine during the French
Revolution. According to legend, however, Dupre was able to bribe his
guard with the Angel coin he carried in his pocket and make his escape.
Legend also says that Napoleon Bonaparte always carried an early French
Angel in his pocket'until losing it the night before the fateful Battle
at Waterloo. This Battle marked the beginning of his downfall.

Canadian Maple Leaf - Gold Coin

Due to its 99.99% gold purity, the Royal
Canadian Mint markets its Gold Maple Leaf as 'the international symbol
of purity'. The Gold Maple Leaf has been produced since 1979 (it was
minted with 0.999 fine gold for the first four years before switching
to 0.9999 fine in 1983). Gold Maple Leafs should be handled carefully.
Due to their ultra-high purity, they may scratch or mar more easily
than other 1-oz. gold coins of lesser purity.
DesignThe front, or "obverse", of the Gold Maple Leaf
features a bust of Queen Elizabeth II. Originally, the bust used
depicted the Queen in her younger days. The bust design changed in 1990
to feature a more mature portrait. In both versions, her name
"ELIZABETH II" appears at top; the denomination and date of issue rest
underneath the bust. The back, or "reverse" depicts a Maple Leaf, the national symbol
of Canada for which the coin derives its name. The Gold Maple Leaf's
reverse also lists the name of the country and the amount and purity of
the gold - in both English and French, the national languages of
Canada.

Minting InformationThe Royal Canadian Mint, the nation's
official mint, was the first mint in the world to commercially produce
99.99% pure gold in gold coin form. More recently, it also became the
first mint to produce 99.999% gold. The Ottawa branch of the Mint has
been in operation since 1908. The main branch for production today is
Winnipeg.
Government GuaranteeThe government of Canada guarantees
the purity, weight, and legal tender value of each Gold Maple Leaf
coin. For this reason, Gold Maple Leafs have been internationally
recognized since their introduction in 1979. Below, please find detailed specifications on these coins.
Generally, Goldline sells Gold Maple Leaf coins as dates our choice and

Silver American Eagle - Silver Coin

Silver American Eagles, which the United
States government first introduced in 1986, have fast become one of the
most popular ways to invest in silver bullion.

DesignLike the Gold American Eagle,
the design for the Silver American Eagle was borrowed from an
older American coin. The image of "Walking Liberty,' located on the
front of the Silver American Eagle, first debuted in 1916 on the
half-dollar coin designed by Adolph Weinman. Renowned for their beauty,
Walking Liberty Half-Dollars are widely considered one of the United States' most attractive silver coin.

The reverse, designed by John Mercanti, depicts a heraldic eagle
with shield carrying an olive branch and arrows in its talons. An
inverse pyramid of thirteen stars representing the thirteen original
colonies floats above its head. The words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ' 1
OZ. FINE SILVER ~ ONE DOLLAR '" encircle the eagle.

Minting InformationSilver American Eagles are one-ounce
coins made from 99.9% pure silver bullion. A trace amount of copper is
added to increase their durability.

Government GuaranteeSilver American Eagles maintain a
unique advantage over most other silver bullion coins - the U.S.
government guarantees their content, weight, and purity. Thus, when you

Peace Silver Dollar - Silver Coin

The Peace Dollar was minted to commemorate the
signing of the peace treaty between the United States and Germany at
the end of World War I. Interestingly, this coin was created without a
new Congressional Act; instead it was minted under the provisions of
the Pittman Act that authorized the reissue of the Morgan Silver Dollar in 1921.

DesignThe medalist Anthony De Francisci designed the Peace
dollar using his wife Teresa as a model for the personified head of
Liberty. Above her head appears the word 'LIBERTY' and beneath sits the
date of issue. The motto 'IN GOD WE TRUST' appears around her neck
separated between the words 'WE' and 'TRUST'.
The reverse features a perched eagle on a mountain crag looking off
into rays of sunlight. Across the eagle is the dollar denomination. The
Mint Mark appears underneath the word 'ONE'. At the top of the coin
along the rim lie the words 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA' above the Latin
phrase 'E ' PLURIBUS ' UNUM'.
All Peace Silver Dollars were struck in high relief in 1921, their
first year of production. The design was slightly modified in 1922 and
normal relief coins were struck later that year. Peace Dollars were
struck continuously until the effects of the Great Depression were
felt in 1929. The U.S. Mint began producing the Peace
Dollar again in 1934, but coins dated 1935 would be the last to
see circulation. Peace Dollars were struck in Denver again in 1965, but
all were destroyed and none ever reached circulation.

American Gold Eagle - Gold Coin

First introduced in 1986, U.S. Gold Eagles are the #1 gold bullion coin choice among investors across the world.

DesignAfter careful consideration, the United States Mint
decided to copy the design of the $20 Saint-Gaudens gold coin for the
obverse of its new Gold Eagle. The $20 Saint-Gaudens was commissioned
by Theodore Roosevelt to create coins of awe like the ancient Greek and
Roman coins. The date, situated to the viewer's right of Miss Liberty,
appears in Roman Numerals in the years from 1986-91 it has appeared in
Arabic Numerals ever since.
The design on the reverse by Miley Busiek captures a bald eagle
swooping into a nest holding its family. The scene is meant to
symbolize many classic American concepts.

Minting InformationGold Eagles are made only from gold
mined in the United States. The coins are minted using 24-karat gold
plus small amounts of alloy to ensure a minimum of scratching and
marring; the result is a 22-karat overall composition. Each one-ounce
Gold Eagle contains one full ounce of pure gold.

Government GuaranteeGold Eagles maintain a unique
advantage over most other gold bullion coins - the United States
government guarantees their gold content, weight, and purity. For this
reason, Gold Eagles can easily be bought and sold almost anywhere in
the world, making these coins among the most commonly traded gold
bullion coins on the market.

Morgan Silver Dollar - Silver Coin

The Morgan Dollar is one of the most collected
silver coins in our history. This George T. Morgan design is awash with
Western lore and legend. First struck in 1878, it was created to absorb
the fabulous quantity of silver minted from the Comstock Lode.

DesignThe head of Lady Liberty takes up most of the
obverse of this coin. She is encircled by the date of issue, thirteen
stars, and the words, 'E ' PLURIBUS ' UNUM'. This phrase, which
translates to 'Out of many, one', was first chosen for official United
States use in 1776.The reverse features a bald eagle with wings
spread perched upon a branch and arrows. The eagle is partially
surrounded by a wreath. Above his head sits the motto 'In God we
trust'. Around the rim are the words 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA'
separated by a star on either side from 'ONE DOLLAR'.
Morgan, who studied under the direction of instructors from the
Royal Mint in London, placed an 'M' on both sides of the coin to lay
his claim to the design. He made slight revisions to the coin's design
when it was reintroduced in 1921.

Minting InformationThe largest and heaviest silver coin
since the Civil War, the Morgan silver dollar contains a hefty 0.77344
ounces of pure silver. It was minted continuously from 1878 to 1904
when the government exhausted its supply of silver bullion. Congress
would pass the Pittman Act in 1918, recalling over 270 million silver
dollars for melting and the Morgan dollar would be minted one last year
in 1921 before being replaced by the Peace Silver Dollar.

French 20 Francs Rooster - Gold Coin

The French 20 Franc Rooster is one of the most
affordable, and therefore popular, of all our classic European gold
coins. Each coin contains almost a fifth of an ounce (0.1867) of pure
gold and is available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. It is ideal
for investors who have the ability to acquire from 20 to 1,000+ coins.

DesignThe front of the French 20 Franc Rooster features
the head of the Third Republic surrounded by the words 'REPUBLIQUE
FRANCAISE'. The Third Republic was established after Napoleon III's
defeat in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. This government remained in
effect until World War II. France currently operates under The Fifth
Republic.
The reverse depicts a proud, fully plumed rooster along with the
denomination (20 Fcs), the date, and the words 'LIBERTE ' EGALITE '
FRATERNITE'. This phrase, which translates to 'freedom, equality,
fraternity', was popularized during the French Revolution against Louis
XVI.

Minting InformationThe original production run of French
20 Franc Rooster gold coins occurred between 1898 and 1914, with
surviving coins from the initial year considered especially rare. Coins
with dates from 1907-1914 were officially re-struck at the Paris Mint
in 1921 and again from 1951-1960.

Limited SupplyThe original mintage of these coins was
fairly limited. Scarcity was increased by the melting of millions of
gold 20 Francs during the 1930's after private ownership of gold was
outlawed in the United States. Even more were melted in the 1970's and
80's when gold soared to $850 per ounce. Surviving French 20 Franc
Rooster gold coins in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, are especially
desirable today.

Proof Gold American Eagle - Gold Coin

Proof Gold American Eagles are collector
versions of the world's most popular gold bullion coins, the official
United States gold bullion coin. Only a limited number of proof coins
are struck each year and certain years have been known to sell out soon
after being issued. Proof Gold Eagles are minted in each of the bullion
sizes (1-oz., 1/2-oz., 1/4-oz., and 1/10-oz.) and are available for
purchase in any of these sizes individually, or in 2' or 4-piece sets.

DesignThe U.S. Mint copied the design for the obverse of
the Gold Eagle from the $20 Saint-Gaudens, which is widely considered
America's most beautiful coin. This coin was commissioned by Theodore
Roosevelt in an effort to rival the coins of ancient Greece and Rome.
The reverse, designed by Miley Busiek, captures a male bald eagle
holding an olive branch in its talons as it swoops into a nest holding
its family. This side also carries the majority of the wording on the
coin ' the gold content and purity, the denomination, the issuing
country, the phrase 'E PLURIBUS UNUM' and the motto 'IN GOD WE TRUST'.

Minting InformationProof American Eagles undergo a
detailed minting process using special dies. Lustrous coin blanks are
fed manually into the presses where they are struck multiple times to
ensure detailed coin images, which appear softly frosted above a
mirror-like background.
Each Proof Eagle comes in a beautiful, dark blue velvet presentation
case (pictured right) with an official U.S. Mint Certificate of
Authority. This certificate outlines the United States government'
guarantee of the coin's gold content, weight, and purity.

Individual Retirement AccountsCurrently, proof U.S. Eagles
are the only collectible coins allowed by the United States government
for Individual Retirement Accounts.

Each coin is an official Silver American Eagle bullion coin brought to life with radiant color. Now the American flag worn by Miss Liberty is red, white and blue. The sun is a warm yellow and the laurel branch in Liberty's arm is a verdant green.

DesignEach Red, White, & Blue American Eagle is an actual Silver American Eagle, so the design and specifications are the same. Miss Liberty, the ground beneath her, and the sun burst with color on the Red, White, & Blue American Eagle.

Australian Nugget - Gold Coin

First produced in 1986, the Australian Gold
Nugget / Kangaroo coin is one of the most popular coins created by the
Perth Mint in Western Australia. Perhaps the most diverse of any
nation's bullion coinage, the Gold Australian Nugget / Kangaroo is
minted in eight different sizes from 1/20th of an ounce all the way up
to 1-kilogram.

DesignThe obverse of the coin features a profile view of
the face of Queen Elizabeth II, as designed by Ian Rank Broadley. She
is surrounded by her name, the denomination of the coin, and the word
"AUSTRALIA".
The
design on the reverse originally depicted natural Australian gold
nuggets (example right), with different designs for various sizes. The
design theme changed in 1989 to feature the most recognizable animal in
Australia, the kangaroo (example above). For this reason, the coin is
referred to both as an Australian "Nugget" and "Kangaroo".
The Australian Gold Nugget / Kangaroo is currently the only legal
tender, pure gold bullion coin to change its design each year and limit
its mintage annually. Each size from 1/20th-oz. to 1-oz. receives a new
design each year. New designs are introduced each year to the proof
coins and these designs are then used for striking the bullion coins
the following year.

Minting Information
Each coin, from the tiny 1/20th-ounce to the massive 1-kilogram, is
currently composed of 99.99% pure gold. Australian Nugget / Kangaroo
coins enjoy legal tender status courtesy of the Australian Currency Act
1965. This legal tender nature provides additional security to
investors and collectors. The production of the Australian Gold Nugget
/ Kangaroo has proven very beneficial to the nation's mining industry
and the coins continue to be favorites among investors.

Austrian Gold Philharmonic - Gold Coin

The Austrian Mint first began producing the
Vienna Philharmonic in 1989 and it quickly became very popular. This
coin was the best selling gold bullion coin in the world in 1992, 1995,
and 1996 according to World Gold Council.

DesignThe obverse features the great organ in the Vienna's
Golden Concert Hall (Musikverein), which houses the Philharmonic
Orchestra. Arranged underneath the organ are the weight, fineness, date
of issue, and face value in Euros*. At top sits the official name of
the country, 'REPUBLIK 'STERREICH'.

The reverse depicts a collection of orchestral instruments: a cello,
four violins, a Vienna horn, bassoon, and harp. These instruments are
arranged underneath the German name of the orchestra: 'WIENER
PHILHARMONIKER'.

Minting InformationMinted in 1-oz., '-oz., '-oz., and
1/10-oz. sizes, all Vienna Philharmonics are made from 99.99% pure
gold. No alloyed metals are added. All coins are minted at the Austrian
Mint AG, now a subsidiary of the Austrian National Bank. The Mint was
established in 1194 and has remained in its current building since
1837.

Government GuaranteeThe Austrian Mint guarantees the
Philharmonic's weight and purity and backs its monetary face value,
which was the highest of any gold bullion coin when it was denominated
in Schilling, prior to the creation and acceptance of the Euro.

South African Krugerrand - Gold Coin

The world's first gold bullion coin minted for
investment, the Krugerrand is believed to be the most widely owned
bullion coin in the world.

DesignThe Krugerrand's obverse, designed by O. Schultz,
features the first President of the South African Republic, Paul
Kruger. Due to South Africa's relationship with apartheid, these coins are
the least expensive of all the major gold bullion coins. Kruger is
surrounded by the name of his nation in Afrikaans and English, two of
South Africa's eleven official languages: "SUID-AFRIKA ' SOUTH AFRICA".

A springbok (a South African antelope) prances across the reverse,
as designed by C.L. Steynberg. This side also lists the date of issue
and the amount and purity of the gold. Interestingly, the Krugerrand
does not carry a face value, as it is primarily minted for trading
outside South Africa.

Minting InformationEach Krugerrand is minted using
approximately 91 2/3 parts gold and 8 1/3 parts copper. The Mint is
never at a loss for gold as South Africa is the world's biggest
producer of the yellow metal. The official South African Mint has
undergone many changes over the years and was privatized in 1988. The
South African Mint Company (Pty) Ltd. was established that year as a
full subsidiary of the SA Reserve Bank.

Platinum American Eagle - Platinum Coin

More than a decade after initial production of the Gold and Silver American Eagles, the United States government first issued platinum Eagles in 1997. These coins quickly became the #1 platinum bullion coins in the world.

DesignThe obverse of the Platinum Eagle features the head of the Statue of Liberty and was designed by John M. Mercanti, who also designed the reverse of the Silver American Eagle.

The reverse of the Platinum Eagle carried a different design each year from 1998 through 2002. The series, known as the 'Vistas of Liberty', honors a different regional landscape each year.

Minting InformationEach platinum bullion coin is 99.95% pure, and because of platinum's rarity, the one-ounce Platinum Eagle has the highest face value of any American coin ever minted: $100.

Government GuaranteePlatinum Eagles maintain a unique advantage over all other platinum bullion coins - the United States government guarantees their content, weight, and 0.9995 purity.

PlatinumPlatinum is one of the world's scarcest precious metals. Besides use in various coinage like the Platinum Eagle, platinum also has many industrial and high-tech uses. In fact, one in every five consumer products either contains platinum or is produced using platinum.

Platinum Canadian Maple Leaf - Platinum Coin

The Royal Canadian Mint introduced platinum Canadian Maple Leafs in the same year as the Silver Maple Leafs. Each coin is 99.95% fine.

DesignThe Platinum Maple Leaf carries the same obverse and reverse designs as the Gold and Silver Maple Leaf coins. The obverse features a bust of Queen Elizabeth II, whose design changed in 1990 to feature a mature portrait of the Queen. In both versions, her name ('ELIZABETH II') appears at top and the denomination of the coin and the date of issue rest underneath the bust.

The reverse depicts a Maple Leaf, the national symbol of Canada and for which the coin derives its name. The reverse also lists the name of the country and the amount and purity of the gold.

Minting InformationBased on the popularity of the Gold Maple Leaf, the Royal Canadian Mint began producing 99.9% pure platinum bullion coins. The Ottawa branch of the Mint has been in operation since 1908, when it was opened as a branch of Britain's Royal Mint. It came under Canadian ownership in 1931 and became a corporation of the Crown in 1969.

Government GuaranteeThe Government of Canada guarantees the purity, weight, and legal tender value of each Canadian Maple Leaf bullion coin.
