The American Gold Eagle coins are the most popular and recognizable coins ever minted by the United States Mint. American Gold Eagles are available as 1oz, 1/2oz, 1/4oz and 1/10th oz. The fractional size, like this 1/2oz gold Eagle, are the most popular varieties available as they offer more divisibility and flexibility when it comes to transportation and liquidation of your precious metals.
American Eagles were initially introduced in 1986 and the 1/2oz Gold Eagles have a fact value, of legal tender US currency, at $25.00 US Dollars per coin.
Most of the 1/2oz American Eagles available are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and there may be past years available in alternative conditions as well.
These items are some of the most popular additions to a self-directed IRA that are available to United States investors. Initially there were no proof American Eagles aside from the full 1oz coins but the US mint has since included the 1/2oz Gold American Eagle and other fractional coins as well in proof condition.
The proof versions of fractional Gold American Eagle coins were created between 1987 and 1988, with the ½ oz added in 1987, and the ¼ oz and 1/10 oz coins added in 1988.
Each of the American Gold Eagles is a ½ oz, like the other versions of Gold American Eagles, and contains 22-karat gold. American Gold Eagle coin production is based upon demand in the market, and as such economic factors often play into the production levels. As recently as the year 2022 the American Gold Eagle has completely sold out and suppliers have been restricted and limited by the US Mint due to overwhelming demand worldwide.
The front of each coin is the image of Lady Liberty created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907 and the back displays of a family of nesting bald eagles.
